Early Intervention Program
The mission of the Salem County Special Services Early Intervention Program is to enhance the capacity of families to meet the developmental and health-related needs of children birth to age three who have delays or disabilities by providing quality services and support to families and their children. Families from diverse racial, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds will be involved in decision-making at every level of the design, implementation and evaluation of the Early Intervention System. The system will:
Promote collaborative partnerships among the family, their community, service and health care providers, schools and child care programs that strengthen and enhance family competence to develop and use lasting networks of natural support.
- Provide a family-centered approach which will be based upon the uniqueness of the family and its culture.
- Promote prompt service and support delivery in settings most natural and comfortable for the child and family and which foster opportunities for the development of peer relationships with children without disabilities.
- Reflect the current best practices in the field of early intervention in order to ensure uniformity of service delivery standards and yield the most positive outcome for the child and family.
- Recognize and respect the knowledge, beliefs, aspirations, values, culture and preference of families and utilize these for planning and delivery of support and services.
- Facilitate ongoing, system-wide, participatory evaluation to ensure an effective and efficient Early Intervention System.

Music Therapy
Music Therapy is an established healthcare profession that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs. Employing music as a therapeutic medium motivates individuals to achieve non-musical goals such as developing communication, increasing self confidence and expression, achieving new levels of independence, enhancing fine and gross motor skills, and developing a wide variety of cognitive skills.
The music therapy program at SCSSSD was implemented in the summer of 2008. Currently, music therapy is not considered a related service, but rather a program enhancement in a variety of schools across the district. Based on individual music therapy assessments, students may be seen in a group setting, one-on-one setting, or a combination of both.
Mission
The mission of the Music Therapy Program at SCSSSD is to provide goal- centered musical enrichment for all students which therapeutically coincides with their current educational plan.

Job Shadowing
In our society, working is one of the most fundamental functions in a person’s life. For the majority of us, it is the means of financial stability, self-sufficiency, professional growth, and development. Yet, for people with disabilities, employment has not always been a central part of their lives. We are dedicated to providing supported employment through our Community Based Instruction Program to help disabled students find competitive work in integrated work settings, or employment in integrated work settings where students can build upon their strengths.
SCSSSD’s Transitional Career Program is implementing the development of career paths that includes future career planning, skills building, and ongoing career exploration, which provide our students with the progression from classroom to entry-level positions.
What is CBI? Essentially, Community based Instruction means that students are able to be exposed to career opportunities, engage in obtaining the necessary skills to perform job tasks, and to work toward the pursuit of employment in their community settings while earning wages that are least equivalent to workers in the same or similar positions.
